Russia names top-10 places for wine tourism

‘Abrau-Durso’, ‘Massandra’, and ‘Elbuzd’ topped a ranking of the most popular places for wine tours in Russia

Russia names top-10 places and resorts for wine tourism: ‘Abrau-Durso’ (Novorossiisk, Krasnodar Territory), ‘Massandra’ (Yalta, Crimea), ‘Elbuzd’ (Azov district, Rostov region), ‘Levokumskoe’ (Stavropol Territory), ‘Phanagoria’ (Temryuk, Krasnodar region), ‘Inkerman’ (Crimea), ‘Vedernikov’ (Rostov region), ‘Myskhako’ (Novorossiisk, Krasnodar Territory), ‘Novuy Svet’ (Sudak, Crimea), and ‘Zolotaya Balka’ (Balaklava, Crimea).

According to TurStat analytical agency, which assessed Russian main regions of viticulture, most popular places for wine tourism are located on the south of the country, with Krasnodar Kray, Rostov region, Stavropol region, and Crimea topping the rating. Those who prefer fruit and berry wines opt for central regions, such as Tver region or Siberia, and Altay Kray, where among the most popular places are: Vesegonsk (Tver region) and Biysk (Altai Kray).

There are over 500 thousand people in Russia who call themselves wine tourists. Being one of the most popular places for this activity, Abrau-Durso has received 300 thousand tourists last year and believes the demand for its wine tours will grow twice as much over 2016.

According to the rankings, tourists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, and Chelyabinsk are among the most interested in wine tours.
