The world of international wine gathered at the ProWein in Düsseldorf takes note of a new acquisition: to pass into the hands of the largest producer of Cava Catalan in Germany, with a little of Italy in the middle. The German group Henkell, owner of the Italian company Mionetto, one of the most famous producers of Prosecco, has closed an agreement for the purchase of 50.7% of the capital of Freixenet, the Catalan production company of Cava.

According to sources quoted by the newspaper “La Vanguardia”, the estimated transaction of 220 million euros leads to the birth of the world’s first sparkling wine group, with the merging by Henkell & Co of the Henkell Trocken brand bubbles, Prosecco and other sparkling wines made in Italy and now also the most famous in Spain.
