wo other big names in world enology are added to the list of the Vinitaly International Prize, established by Veronafiere in 1996. It is Arnaldo Caprai for Italy and the American Gallo Winery for abroad.

In the motivation for the award of the recognition to Caprai we read: “The Vinitaly award goes to the Arnaldo Caprai winery, led by Marco Caprai, creator of the rebirth of Sagrantino di Montefalco and the relaunch of its territory”.

In the seventies Arnaldo Caprai, a successful textile entrepreneur, bought the first hectares of vineyards; his son Marco gives a managerial impulse focusing on research around the local native vine, after having saved the cuttings from the Convent of Santa Chiara in Montefalco with the University of Milan and with the creation of ‘Cobra’, the vineyard that is the most rich database in the world: a case history also studied by the prestigious Agnelli Foundation. The result is the entry into the gotha of Italian enology, starting from the 1993 selection of the Sagrantino celebrated by the guides, and in the international one, with the Grecante 2015 inserted by Wine Spectator in the ‘Top 100’. Also worthy of pioneering projects such as Montefalco New Green Revolution for a model of sustainability in the field of viticulture and # caprai4love for the enhancement of the artistic and cultural heritage of Montefalco.
